Shawnee Native Earns Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy From Midwestern University

GLENDALE, Arizona (June 2026)— Cate Cunningham, M.O.T., of Shawnee, Kansas has completed the Master of Occupational Therapy (M.O.T.) degree in the College of Health Sciences at Midwestern University. Conferring of degrees took place in a graduation ceremony held at Midwestern University’s Glendale Campus Auditorium on June 1, 2026.

Ms. Cunningham is the daughter of Shawnee residents Tim and Robyn Cunningham. She graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in 2020 and earned a B.S. in Health and Human Performance from Emporia State University in 2024. While at Midwestern, she served as Vice President of the Student Body and Vice President of the Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA), and earned the Dean’s Award for Academic Achievement. After graduation, Cate plans to work as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist.

Occupational therapists (O.T.s) are healthcare professionals trained to help patients to develop, retain, and regain the ability to perform important “occupations” of daily life. O.T.s may have expertise in child development, lifespan adjustment, ergonomics, assistive technology, prevention and wellness, family and caregiver education, orthotics, environmental analysis and modification, and more. Midwestern University’s Occupational Therapy Program is designed to prepare entry-level practitioners to provide expanded occupational therapy services in large, small, traditional, and nontraditional community and clinical practice settings.
